Susana Mendoza J.

Expedition Guide — Susana was born in Talcahuano, Chile. She has lived most of her life in Punta Arenas, where she attended the Liceo Maria Auxiliadora and developed an interest in tourism. She later studied tourism and translation (English–German) at the University of Concepción. In 2001, she began working as a guide in Punta Arenas. Three years later she joined Australis and currently works as an expedition guide specializing in flora, indigenous peoples, birds and glaciology. LANGUAGES: Spanish, English and French.

It wasn’t the first time that I had disembarked at Cape Horn. Actually, I’ve lost count of how many times I have visited Isla Hornos. Even more, I have been lucky enough to celebrate my birthday on this mythical place more than once in the last ten years. But even if it sounds cliché, each new time is unique.

The Best Trip of My Life

“This has been the best trip of my life.” I heard this phrase from a French passenger while we were walking on a shore excursion and I realized how easy it is to provide a unique and unforgettable experience to somebody when we really love what we do as guides.
